In the wake of a global pandemic, Dana Asia initiates an emergency fund drive to help families in the Philippines and Cambodia. While the ultimate goals are to develop sustainable business and education, the immediate need for sustenance cannot be overlooked.
In the Philippines, a partnership between AROWANA Impact Capital Group and Grameen Pilipinas Microfinance, Inc. was facilitated by Dana Asia. Through this partnership, food supplies were made available to more than 1,400 individuals in the province of Laguna. A total of 500 households received care packages of 25kg of rice, fruits and poultry that were also supplied by local farmers. This was part of a three-phase response to revitalize economic activity in the depressed communities in the region.
The relief distribution could not have happened at a more opportune time. On the weekend of relief distribution, typhoon Ambo ravaged not only the province of Laguna, but the spirit and hope of its residents as well. Nevertheless, members of Grameen Pilipinas Microfinance, Inc. braved the storm and patiently waited in line while observing the health protocols set by the government.
On June 13, 2020, Dana Asia happily announced that more than 50% of the target $230,000 AUD emergency fund has been raised and the next phase of the project is well on its way.
