Fundamentally, every one of us works to secure and satisfy our basic needs and that of our families. We work for ourselves, and we strive to master our own fates.
In the Philippines, this goal is very difficult, even impossible to achieve for many families in the under-resourced communities. The absence of financial means and lack of education trap them in a cycle of poverty.
Beyond financial service, Grameen Pilipinas Microfinance, Inc. endeavors to continually create opportunities for learning and adapting to modern technology in the hope of levelling the playing field for these underprivileged families.
GPMI particularly gives care and attention to Filipino mothers, many of whom are home-based.
While in many households they mainly provide support by tending to their children, these women are also inherently smart, creative and hard-working.
GPMI recognizes that, given the opportunity, home-based mothers have great potential to succeed as entrepreneurs and ultimately help increase the family income.
With guidance from a trained staff, a GPMI member is able to recognize her strengths and abilities, and choose a business undertaking that is sustainable.
